(BASIC TICKETING AND TARIFF)


IATA stands for INTERNATIONAL AIR TRANSPORT ASSOCIATION.

PURPOSE:
They handle all the air aviation and ticketing worldwide.

BASIC INFORMATION:
  • IATA was established on 19th April, 1945 in Havana Cuba.
  • IATA is an international industry trade group of airlines.
  • Its headquarter is in Montreal, Quebec (Canada).
  • The executive offices are at the Geneva Airport in Switzerland.
  • The office which cover Asia is in Singapore.
  • IATA represents some 290 Airlines, representing 120 countries comprising 84% of scheduled international Air Traffic.
  • For fare calculation IATA has divided the world in three regions.
    i. South Central And North America (SCNA)
    ii. Europe, Middle East and Africa. IATA Europe includes the Geographical Europe and Turkey, Israel, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.
    iii. Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the Island of the Pacific Ocean.

PURPOSE:
Main purpose of the course is to lead and serve its members, as well as to represent its interest make a cheap Air Ticket.


POINTS TO REMEMBER AT THE TIME OF BOOKING A TICKET:
  • Where is a passenger going?
  • In which air line a passenger wants to travel
  • At what time and which day a passengers want to arrive at their desire destination.
  • Can we offer a passenger cheapest rate economy class.

BASIC TOPICS FOR STUDY:
  1. Time:
    (e.g. Any customer goes from KHI to DXB so if he takes departure at 3:00 than at what time he arrived.)
  2. Currency:
    (How will we exchange our currency in another.
  3. Type Of Journey:
    (In this topic we will discuss that what type of journey will our customer do.)
  4. Global Indicator (GI)
  5. Governing Career (GC)
  6. IATA Regions codes and Traffics Control Areas (TC)
  7. Country and Airline Codes
  8. Airport Codes / City Codes
  9. Currency Codes
  10. Ticket and Booking Of Ticket
  11. Abbreviations in IATA

3 IMPORTANT POINTS FOR IATA BASIC STUDY
  • Always use lead pencil because in IATA final exam only lead pencil is allowed.(RULE)
  • Everything speak should be in coding. Like city code / airport code e.g.
    KHI for Karachi
    LHE for Lahore
  • For Communication use telephonic language e.g.
    If you speak to someone to spell some word like "KHI", you will say KHI as King, Horse, Igloo OR Kite, Hat, Ink etc.

TYPES OF AIRPORTS
There are two types of airports
  1. International (GATE WAY)
  2. Domestic (NON GATE WAY)
There are over all 45 airports in Pakistan and 6621 airports worldwide.
