About The Poet

This poem is written by the American poet Robert Frost. He was born in San Francisco, California, on 26 March 1874. He died on 29 January, 1963 in Boston, following a cancer operation. Frost used in his poetry, the language of everyday life and depicted scenes from the common man's experiences and from country life. He received many honours for his poetry.

In the poem the poet says that he knows to whom the forest belongs. The owner lives in the village. There is complete silence in the woods. The only sound that could be heard is of easy wind and downy flakes. The poet stops there for some time to enjoy the beautiful and natural scene of the woods. The poet finds himself completely involved in the environment of the forest, however, his horse finds it strange to stop there in such a time. He shakes his harness bells to get the attention of his master. The poet wants to stay there more time but as the climate changes and he is in a hurry so he can not stay there to enjoy the scene in the forest for a long time. Moreover, he has also to keep promise and go miles before he sleeps.
