NOTE: Answer any Nine part questions from this section. All questions carry equal marks. Draw diagrams where necessary.
2. i) Define escape velocity and derive the expression for escape velocity on earth’s surface.
ii) State and explain Pascal’s law with hydraulic lift.
iii) Define potential gradient. Show that electric intensity is equal to the negative of potential gradient.
iv) How energy is stored in a Capacitor? Derive expression for the energy stored in a capacitor.
v) State and explain Kirchhoff’s first and second law.
vi) Prove that following equations are dimensionally correct:
i) T = 2𝛑√ L/g

ii) S = vit + ½at2
iii) S = vt
iv) vf = vi + at

v) S = vf2 - vi2 / 2a

vi) v = 𝝀f
vii) T = 2𝛑√ m/k

viii) 1/f = 1/p + 1/q

ix) v = √ Tl/m

x) f = 2𝛑√ Fl/m

vii) Derive the expressions for the orbital speed of the satellite.
viii) Prove that /A X B/2 + (A.B)2 = A2B2
ix) Define work derive work energy equation or show that the gravitational field is conservative field.
x) What is Doppler’s effect? What change in frequency is observed by a stationary listener what of source sound moves away from listener?
xi) What was Newton’s ring how they are formed derive equation for the radius of bright ring in Newton’s ring experiment.
xii) Define elastic collision derive the expression for their final velocities V1 and V2 when non–rotation spheres of masses m1, m2 initially moving with velocity U1 and U2 respectively in one dimension collide elastically.
xiii) What is angle of friction? Derive a relation between the angle of friction and the angle of repose.
xiv) Derive equation continuity Or what is impulse prove law of conservation of linear momentum and law of conservation of energy by considering free fall.
xv) Define ‘Position Vector’. Two vectors A1 and A2 making angle 1 and 2 with the horizontal. Describe addition of these two vectors by rectangular component method.
xvi) Derive Bernoulli's equation for steady, incompressible, non-viscous and irrational flow of fluid.
xvii) What is an Electric dipole? Derive the expression for electric field intensity due to electric dipole at a point which is at a perpendicular distance y from the centre of the dipole.
xviii) Describe the stationary waves produced in a stretched string. Derive the expression for frequencies when string is vibrating in:
i) One loop
ii) Two loops
iii) Three loops
iv) n loops
xix) Define simple harmonic motion. A particle in its state of uniform circular motion, Prove that its projection executes simple harmonic motion on one of the diameter of the circle.
xx) Describe Young’s double slit experiment and derive the expressions for position of dark and bright fringes. Also derive expression for fringe spacing. OR how X-rays are diffracted through crystal?
