Q.1: When and where was Shah Abdul Latif born?
Ans: Shah Abdul Latif was born in 1102, Hijra (1689 A.D.) in a small village called “Hala Haveli”.

Ans: Shah Abdul Latif’s ancestors had migrated to Sindh during the days of Tamerlane. The emperor Aurangzeb then ruled the country .They had come from Hiirat a town in West Afghanistan. Sindh was a center of muslims culture at that time. They liked Sindh so much that they decided to make it their permanent home.

Q.3: When did Shah marry? How did he treat his wife?
Ans: When he was twenty, he married a noble and good lady. He showed great kindness to his wife and lived at home for many years.

Q.4:  What is the meaning of a "Bhit"? Why is Shah Latif  known as “Saint of Bhit” or "Bhittai"? (KHI Board - General group 2011, 2013)
Ans: A mound of sand is called “Bhit” in Sindhi language. After death of his father, Shah Latif's  left his home and passed the rest of his life on a mound, which was near his village. Due to the fact that he lived on this mound  , Shah Latif came to be known as “The Saint of Bhit.” or "Bhittai".

Ans: Shah latif's love of God grew day by day. He spent most of his time in prayer and deep thinking. His spiritual power also grew and people were attracted and impressed by him.

Ans: Shah Latif loved peace and quietness of the scene. He spent much of his time sitting on the bank of the natural lake close to the mound where Latif lived. As he sat there, he prayed to God and sometimes composed verses in his praise.

Ans. Shah Latif was not only a saint and a poet but also a great musician. He found great comfort in music.  He loved simplicity in music and musical instruments. He did not agree with the idea that music should be difficult. So he simplified the music of those days. He also invented a simple musical instrument called 'Tambooro'.

Q.8: What are the important features ( or qualities ) of Shah Latif's  poetry?
Ans: The qualities of shah Latit's poetry are simplicity and moving music. Shah wrote the poetry in the language of a common man. Everyone is moved by its melody.

Ans. The message of Shah Latif is the message of love. He believed in the brotherhood and equality of men and in pleasing God by good deeds. According to him, this is the goal of life. He preaches the same through his poetry, which is in the language of common people.

Q.10: How did Islam spread far and wide?
Ans: God sent the Prophet (peace be upon him) as a blessing to mankind. He won people's hearts by his kind nature and gentle ways. His noble example was followed by many of his followers. It was through the efforts of these saintly men that Islam spread far and wide.

Q.11: Name the shrines of saints found in Pakistan?

Ans: There are shrines of such saints, in every part of our country.
1- The shrines of  Data Ganj Bakhsh and Mian Mir Sahib are in Lahore.
2- Baba Fareed's shrine is in Pak Pattan
3- The Shrine of Ghaus Bahaul Haq is in Multan.
4- The Shrines of Shah Abdul Latif and Qalander Lal Shahbaz are in Bhit Shah and and Sehwan respectively in Sindh.
In Peshawar, in Quetta, and in countless other towns and cities there are the tombs of such saintly men of God.

Q.12: What do you know about Tambooro? OR  What is Tambooro?
Ans. The Tambooro is a simple musical instrument invented by the Sufi, philosopher Shah Abdul Latif. It is like an Arabian musical instrument. However, the number of strings in it is different. Tambooro is still popular in Sindh.

Ans: Latif's devotees collected his poetry and this collection came to be called as "Shah Jo Risalo" (Risalo Of Shah Abdul Latif). The collection of his poems is so valued that it has been translated to many international languages.

Ans: Shah Abdul Latif was a great saint who is lovingly called “Lal Latif” by his devotees. he was also a  famous poet or musician. he simplified music and inventend Tambooro. His message is the message of love.

Q.15: What do you know about Latif's Urs?
Ans. Shah Latif’s Urs is held at his shrine every year in 14th Safar, the second month of the Muslim calendar. Thousands of people gather to listen to the Saint’s song sung to the Tambooro and after their prayers. Many learned men read papers that tell about Latif’s life and poetry.

Q.16: What kind of  man was Shah Abdul Latif?
Ans: Shah Latif was very sensitive. His heart was soon filled with the love of God. The beauty of nature aroused his feelings strongly. He started writing poetry, when he was only a boy.

Q.17: Who built a shrine over Shah's grave?
Ans: Lal latif was died in 1165 Hijra on the mound where he had lived and was buried there. A famous king of Sindh Ghulam shah Kalhoro was so devoted to him that he built a shrine over his grave.
