Short Note Or Summary On The Village Life in Pakistan
Shahid replied to the letter of Nomi, his friend who lived in Canada. In this letter Shahid wrote about the Village life in Pakistan. He told him that the villagers are very simple and straight forward people. They lead a simple, happy and contented life close to the nature, quite unlike our modern city life. Their houses are different from those in big cities. They are mostly mud plastered except a few. Most of the lanes and street are narrow and dusty. Usually the villagers go about on foot. They do not use any means of transportation for short distance. That is why they are healthy and strong.
The markets in villages are not like the markets in the big cities, shop are a few and scattered. They are not crowded and decorated. The important workmen are the carpenter and the blacksmith. They make and repair the farmer's tool and do other odd jobs. The school-teacher teaches the students at the school, he also acts as the postmaster. The Imam of the mosque gives moral and religious teaching and guidance to the villagers, he also treats minor ailments.
Otaq is the meeting place for men where they meet in their leisure time, talk about the weather, crops and other matters and enjoy folk songs. Village well is the meeting place for women. The villagers usually awake early in the morning and sleep early. Men milk the cows and women make butter and lassi. The farmer's life is a model of hard labour as he works in the field from dusk to dawn.
