However, sometimes, despite our genuine efforts, we are unable to achieve our goals. It is also necessary to remain realistic about other potential opportunities and have backup plan. This does not mean giving up on your dreams. Instead, it simply means to have a serious retrospection, and if required, redesign your goals. It also means reviewing your strategy and making an efforts with new vigour, more experienced, and first hand insight.

One day, while at work in the coal-mine, I happened to overhear two miners talking about a great school for colored people somewhere in Virginia. This was the first time that I had ever heard anything about any kind of school or college that was more pretentious than the little colored school in our town. I heard one telling the other that not only was the school established for the members of my race but also for the poor.
