TRAFFIC JAMS IN KARACHI
Traffic situation in Karachi is getting worse with each passing day. On one hand vehicles are increasing exponentially while roads are getting blocked due to the mega-development drive in the city. There are numerous reasons for traffic congestion in the city; some of these are:- Road Construction
- Encroachments
- Manual Traffic Control
- Lack of Civic Sense
The ever-increasing rush of heavy traffic on the roads is resulting in heavy loss of human life. One day or the other, people suffer from accidents due to reckless driving. Some lose their vehicles and some go to the police. This is due to lack of civic sense in the citizens and violation of traffic rules.
Traffic jams, road quarrels, untidiness and damage of public property are also a result of this problem. Solving traffic related issues is certainly no easy task and requires lot of research and planning. Considering the availability of resources and funds, it is best to utilize what is readily available rather than opting for brand-new solution which cause more strain on tax payers' pockets.
For example, the circular railway system, if properly launched, can reduce pressure from the vehicular traffic. While there was some progress on Karachi Mass Transit Program, it falls prey of various political agendas and went down the drain. The idea is to try to tie the knot the small size and efficiency of a motorcycle with the comfort and safety of a standard car.

Traffic Hazards In Karachi
By Sir Khalid Khan (Anees Hussain)The hazards of traffic in Karachi are increasing day by day. Every day a large number of people are killed or made disabled by accidents. In Karachi, accidents have become so common, that now people have become indifferent to them.
Only the relatives of people killed those wounded and the suffers can sense the seriousness of the accidents. Not only this, people in Karachi deliberately break the traffic rules just for the sake of reaching their destination early. Due to this, there are traffic jams in the peak hours. This had been very often in Ramadan at the lftar time.
The public, transport of Karachi is mainly in the hands of drivers of minibuses and buses. They are mostly illiterate and get licenses somehow. The buses never stop at the bus stops but ahead or behind the actual bus stops. In addition to this often the drivers stop then vehicles right in the middle of the road. The whole traffic behind is blocked. Home begins to sound loudly but she concerned driver turns a deaf ear to the horns.
He takes off only when the passengers including ladies get into the bus. It is high time that the authorities should think seriously about traffic hazards. Driving licenses must be given after strict examination and checking. Those found not eligible should be rejected. Moreover, the drivers should be made to follow traffic rules, and those found not doing this, should be seriously dealt with.
